The Trevor Anderies Quintet is a new group formed with the goal not only realizing my music but creating a definitive group sound. This ensemble explores the lines between composition and improvisation, folk, jazz, and west african music. As a group we aim to showcase our personal stories through music, sound, and words.

Trevor Anderies Quintet live at the Blue Whale
Aside from co-leading Slumgum, the Trevor Anderies Ensemble took shape as an outlet for Anderies to focus on his own compositions. In 2009, Trevor’s trio performed at Sappho in Taipei. In 2012, Trevor released his first album, Shades of Truth, featuring vocalist Dwight Trible. Responding to this album, jazz legend Bennie Maupin stated, “At a time when the sounds heard most often are merely stale copies of the past, Shades of Truth by talented composer/drummer Trevor Anderies is a truly welcome breeze of fresh air. It’s young musicians like Trevor and his brilliant ensemble who are bringing forth the highly creative, exciting and innovative improvisations of the 21stcentury. This outstanding project proves that modern American music is absolutely in great hands.”
Trevor's main focus is now his Los Angeles based group, the Trevor Anderies Quintet. The band features the amazing vocal talents of Alina Roitstein, who is as comfortable singing art song or opera as she is jazz, Cuban, or Brazilian music. Guitarist Gregory Uhlmann's study of Indian, Ghanaian, jazz, and western chamber music give him a unique perspective that is perfect for Anderies’ compositions. Bassist Emilio Terranova's sharp sense of humor is palpable on or off the bandstand. His supportive flexibility and ability to musically interact with each player allows the music breathe freely. Andrew Conrad is extremely versatile as a woodwind doubler; he is equally comfortable playing clarinet, saxophone, or flute, and the quintet gladly utilizes all the colors that he offers.
Trevor Anderies began his career as a bandleader in 2008 after achieving the honor of recording at Capitol Records for the annual CalArts Jazz CD. Soon after, the modern jazz collective, Slumgum, was formed. Over the next eight years, they toured extensively around the United States, most notably at the Rubin Museum of Art, LACMA, and the Angel City Jazz Festival. They performed clinics at CU Boulder, Denver University, George Mason University, and the University of Reno, Nevada. In 2010, they were participants in the Aspen Snowmass Young Artists Program led by Christian McBride, and in 2013, they received the CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
In 2013, Anderies formed his New York Quartet, culminating in several concerts throughout New York City and an unreleased album. With the Trevor Anderies European Quartet, he toured throughout Europe in 2014 and 2015, playing such venues as the Jazz Keller in Frankfurt and the B-flat in Berlin, featuring musicians from France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
The Trevor Anderies Quintet has performed throughout the west coast at venues such as the Blue Whale, MorYork Gallery, and the Nash, and has given master classes at Paradise Valley Community College and Verde Valley School. Most recently, they premiered an extended work entitled “At the Twilight,” setting the poetry of Rumi. The quintet recently released its latest album, Promise of a Tree. While based in the tradition of jazz and free improvisation, the music is also deeply connected to the folk music of West Africa, Bulgaria, and America.
